ACOG HOSTS SIXTH ANNUAL LEGISLATIVE POWER BRUNCH FOR CENTRAL OKLAHOMA LEGISLATORS

OKLAHOMA CITY — The Association of Central Oklahoma Governments (ACOG) hosted its annual Legislative Power Brunch, Friday, January 31, 2025, at The Will Rogers Theatre. ACOG Board members, state agency partners and Oklahoma State Senators and Oklahoma State House Representatives who serve in the ACOG Service Area, were invited to attend. The area includes Canadian, Cleveland, Logan, Oklahoma, and parts of Grady and McClain Counties

The brunch is designed to educate lawmakers about ACOG legislative issues. Over the last five months, members of the ACOG Board of Directors have collaborated with Mark W. Sweeney, AICP, ACOG Executive Director and ACOG staff, to define the most pressing issues facing the organization and its members.

“Our guiding legislative principles are to ensure that local government authority and autonomy are preserved and protected,” Sweeney said. “We also support legislation that maintains and enhances funding for needed programs and projects that improve the quality of life for the citizens of Central Oklahoma and protects our cities and counties from unfunded mandates,” he continued.

ACOG selected issues include, but are not limited to:

  • 911 & Public Safety
  • Air Quality & Clean Cities
  • Community & Economic Development
  • Transportation
  • Water Resources

ACOG Staff presented a video which emphasizes the pivotal role that collaboration plays between local Central Oklahoma governments, ACOG, and the state legislature. Mr. Sweeney then followed with the 2025 ACOG Legislative Priorities presentation which discussed legislation that has the potential to affect the ACOG region.
