NATIONAL TELECOMMUNICATORS WEEK RECOGNIZES THE VOICES BEHIND EVERY EMERGENCY RESPONSE

From April 12–18, 2026, communities across the 911 ACOG service area will observe National  Telecommunicators Week (NTW), honoring the professionals who serve as the first point of contact in emergencies and the critical link to lifesaving response.

Telecommunicators are often unseen, but their role is essential. Every call for help begins with their voice—calm, focused, and ready to act. They gather vital information, dispatch emergency responders, and provide instruction and reassurance to callers facing some of the most difficult moments of their lives. Their ability to think quickly and communicate clearly ensures that emergency response systems operate effectively and efficiently.

This year’s theme, “Always in Control,” reflects the steady presence telecommunicators bring to unpredictable situations. Whether coordinating responses to medical emergencies, fires, severe weather, or public safety incidents, they maintain control in moments where every second counts.

“In an emergency, telecommunicators are the first line of response,” said Brent Hawkinson, ACOG 911 & Public Safety Director. “Their professionalism, attention to detail, and ability to remain calm under pressure are critical to getting the right help to the right place at the right time. We are proud to recognize their dedication and service to our communities.”

Advancements in emergency communications continue to support this work. Tools such as Text-to-911 provide additional ways for individuals to reach help when a voice call may not be possible, giving telecommunicators more information to guide response. As technology evolves, the role of the telecommunicator remains at the center—combining skill, training, and judgment to deliver effective emergency communication.

Throughout the week, 911 ACOG will recognize the commitment and contributions of telecommunicators. Their work is constant, their impact is immediate, and their service helps keep communities safe every day.

National Telecommunicators Week serves as an opportunity to thank these dedicated professionals for the critical role they play—every call, every day.
